Environmental conservation is a great concern for people all over the world and you can also play your part and save money in the process. There are several tips you can use in your house to go green. These include:
Conserve energy
To save on the costs of cooling and heating your home, you can set your thermostat lower by a few degrees during winter and a little higher during summer.
Instead of using incandescent bulbs, get some compact florescent ones because they use less energy.
Use cold water to do your laundry because a significant part of the energy used in the home goes to the washing machines. Instead of machine drying your clothes, hang them out in the sun.
When you are not using your electric appliances, make sure they are unplugged because energy continues to be used as long as they are plugged in.
Save water
You can reduce your heating and water bills by taking less time in the shower. A showerhead that has a low-flow will cost you less and you will also save on energy and water.
If you have a garden, plant some drought resistant plants that require very little water. Look for native plants in the area you live in.
Use less gas
Instead of driving to work, you can bike or walk to save on the amount of gas you spend. This will also contribute significantly to your health.
If you live far from your place of work, you should consider telecommuting to avoid the long hours in traffic and gas spent.
Avoid bottled water
Bottled water is usually expensive and produces a lot of waste and this is not good for the environment. Get a water filter and purify your tap water which you can carry in an aluminum bottle.
